PESHAWAR:
The staging of public performances by the transgender community has been banned in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa tehsil of Khadu Khel.

A notification from the assistant commissioner of the sub-division, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, read that an application demanding a ban on such performances had been submitted.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, district administration member Afsar Khan from the sub-division said that the ban had been imposed after an application was submitted by local representatives saying that such parties had become a nuisance for the people. Khan said the community was still free to organise such programmes privately. We are not against dance parties; we have only banned public programmes of this kind, he added.

According to the application, such programmes have become a nuisance for the public with events of this kind resulting in brawls, unbridled consumption of alcohol and public display of arms.

The aforementioned notification will be circulated across police posts at entry and exit points of the tehsil. The Buner DC was not immediately available to comment on the matter.
